Sabre women’s hockey downed by No. 5 Adrian to open series

Marian University women’s ice hockey (1-2-0, 0-1-0-0 NCHA) was defeated by No. 5 Adrian 6-1 in its first conference game of the season.

  • Adrian was able to open the scoring just 3:19 into the game, but it was the lone goal of the opening 20 minutes.
  • The Bulldogs were able to pull away scoring three goals in the second period to build a 4-0 lead.
  • Marian was able to find the back of the net when seniors Sydney Schipper and Michaela Powers teamed up for a power-play goal at the 6:23 mark to put the Sabre deficit at 4-1.
  • The Bulldogs responded with two power-play scores of their own to set the final at 6-1.

  • The Sabres had one power-play goal on two chances, while Adrian was 2-for-6.
  • The Bulldogs finished with 35 faceoff wins to just 26 for the Sabres.
