Sabre women’s bowling splits opening day of CCIW Tournament

Marian University women’s bowling defeated Elmhurst but fell to Aurora in the opening day of the CCIW Tournament.

  • The top-seeded Sabres earned a tight 857-841 win in traditional play to open its first match against Elmhurst.
  • Marian then dominated in Baker play to sweep the Blue Jays with a 953-795 victory, the highest Baker total for the day in the field.
  • The Sabres then took on three-seeded Aurora and had the highest pin fall total in traditional play as part of an 870-801 win.
  • Marian then struggled in Baker play the remainder of the mega match falling 808-794 to force a best-of-seven Baker.
  • The Sabres went wire-to-wire with the two squads splitting the first six matches before the Spartans won the winner-take-all seventh.
  • Marian averaged just 161.7 pins, while Aurora had a 176.1 average.
  • Marian will now take on second-seeded Carroll in an elimination match in hopes for a rematch with Aurora where the Sabres would need two wins to win the conference tournament.
