Marian University women’s bowling reached the championship match for the CCIW Tournament but was defeated by Carroll.
MATCH 1 (CARTHAGE, W, 2-1)
- Marian had a tough time in traditional play falling to Carthage 874-778 to open the tournament.
- The Sabres bounced back in Baker play outscoring Carthage in three of the first four games.
- Marian forced a best-of-seven Baker game with an emphatic 206 to cap off Baker total pinfall.
- Carthage took the first two games before Marian won the next three to lead 3-2, including a 268 in the third game.
- The Firebirds were able to force a seventh game but Marian sealed the victory anyways with a 204-188 win.
MATCH 2 (CARROLL, L, 2-1)
- The traditional play was separated by just 33 points as Marian once again fell 889-856.
- Marian had games of 213 and 209 in a tight Baker pinfall.
- In the end, Marian was able to edge Carroll by just one pin, 937-936, to force a second best-of-seven Baker.
- Carroll bowled at least 193 in each game of the winner-take-all defeating the Sabres 4-0.
MATCH 3 – ELIMINATION (CARTHAGE, W, 2-0)
- Marian found itself in a similar position to the past two seasons, facing elimination to open the final day of the tournament.
- The Sabres bowled their best traditional match of the tournament defeating Carthage 914-806.
- Marian also defeated the Firebirds convincingly in Baker total pinfall 954-793 to earn a spot in the final round.
MATCH 4 – ELIMINATION (CARROLL, L, 2-1)
- The Pioneers continued their strong bowling in traditional play defeating Marian 835-734.
- Just as the whole weekend went, Marian bounced back to take Baker total pinfall 842-819 to force a best-of-seven Baker.
- Marian had a 3-2 lead and narrowly forced a second best-of-seven Baker but dropped game six to the Pioneers by just one pin.
- The Sabres also had a lead heading into the 10th frame of game seven but were eliminated by Carroll 168-161.
