Sabre women’s basketball falters after quick start against Beloit

Marian University women’s basketball (1-4, 0-0 NACC) fell to Beloit 76-62 in the final game before conference play opens.

  • Marian had a dominating start scoring the first nine points and taking a 12-2 lead just 2:22 into the game.
  • Beloit would rally over the final 7:38, however, closing out the opening quarter with a 17-4 run to go ahead 19-16 at the first stoppage.
  • The Buccaneers held a 26-22 advantage before scoring seven unanswered to lead 33-22 with 4:38 left in the second.
  • The Sabres cut its deficit down to nine only to have Beloit score the final five points of the half to lead 41-27 after two stanzas.
  • Beloit wouldn’t slow down opening the third quarter on a 13-4 run to lead 54-31 with 4:20 left in the quarter.
  • Marian was able to trim its deficit down to as small as 12 points but couldn’t come any closer leading to a 76-62 final.
  • The Sabres would outscore Beloit 20-15 over the final 10 minutes of action.

  • Marian was 23-of-63 (.365) from the field and went 9-of-19 (.473) in the final quarter.
  • The Buccaneers held a 25-13 advantage in bench points and 40-30 edge in the paint.
  • This was the first meeting between the two programs.

Sophomore Chelsea King added 11 points to go with three assists.
Junior Lexi Brakebush scored 10 points to go with five rebounds and six assists.
