Sabre women’s basketball drops NACC opener to MSOE

Marian University women’s basketball (1-5, 0-1 NACC) was defeated 59-44 by MSOE in the first game of NACC play.

  • MSOE took an early 7-3 lead only to have Marian go on a 10-4 run to go up 13-7.
  • Marian would hold onto this lead and take a 16-11 advantage into the second quarter.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth in the second stanza with MSOE narrowly outscoring Marian 12-11.
  • The Sabres will still able to take a 27-23 lead into halftime.
  • Marian was able to lead 33-27 with 7:45 left in the third quarter before MSOE used a 20-5 run to close out the quarter with a 47-38 lead.
  • MSOE continued to build its cushion opening the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run before the final settled at 59-44.

  • Marian went 10-of-28 (.357) in the first half and finished the game 16-of-49 (.327) from the field.
  • MSOE was 20-of-54 (.370) for the game and 4-of-23 (.174) beyond the arc.
  • The Sabres committed 22 turnovers that turned into 21 Raider points.
  • Marian won the rebounding battled 36-29 and had 11 second-chance points.
  • The Sabres have lost 13 of the last 14 meetings with MSOE.

Sophomore Kiara Williams came off the bench to score 18 points with 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double.
Junior Lyla Bartol chipped in seven points to go with six rebounds.
Sophomore Chelsea King had nine points to go with a pair of assists and a steal.
