Senior Chelsea King scored a season-high 25 points as Marian University women’s basketball (2-16, 2-9 NACC) snapped its eight-game losing streak with a convincing 65-47 win over Illinois Tech. 
 

• Marian’s defense held the Scarlet Hawks without a field goal for the first eight minutes, limiting Illinois Tech to 4-of-15 (.266) shooting in the first quarter.
• Sophomore Nyedeng Awak helped Marian jump out to a 14-4 lead, pulling down three rebounds with a block and a steal in the game’s first five minutes. 
• Illinois Tech scored six of the final eight points of the first quarter to pull within six at the end of the period.
• The Scarlet Hawks picked up four quick fouls to start the second quarter, putting the Sabres to enter the bonus early.
• Senior Brianna Guelig buried a three-pointer to extend the Marian lead to 11. 
• Sophomore Taycee Schwanke erupted late in the second, scoring 10 of the next 12 Sabre points, including back-to-back three-pointers. 
• A 25-point quarter helped Marian take a 41-27 lead into half. King and Schwanke each had 15 points at the break, with Schwanke shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the field. Sophomore Emily Eastham was instrumental in the quarter, recording four assists and four rebounds.
• King converted on a layup to extend the Marian lead to 19 with three minutes left in the quarter. 
• Marian continued to stifle the Illinois Tech offense, with freshman Ava Kreger’s hustle fueling a disruptive defensive half. 
• The Scarlet Hawks cut the lead to eight with six minutes remaining, finishing an 11-2 run that carried into the fourth quarter. 
• Eastham converted an and-one layup, pushing the Sabres’ lead back to 11.
• Marian dominated the rest of the way, holding Illinois Tech scoreless for the final six minutes en route to a 65-47 win. 

• Marian snapped an 11-game NACC losing streak, picking up its first conference win of the season.
• Marian never trailed, leading for the final 36 minutes of the game. 
• Awak pulled down six rebounds in the final quarter to finish with 12, her third double-digit rebound game this season. She also recorded five blocks, a career high and the most by a Sabre this season. 
• Marian held Illinois Tech to 17-of-57 (.298) shooting for the game, including just 2-of-13 (.154) from three-point range. 
• The duo of King and Schwanke scored 43 of Marian’s 65 points, including 30 of 41 in the first half. 
• The Sabres are 8-0 all-time against the Scarlet Hawks, never winning by less than 12 points and averaging 73.25 points per game in these contests.
