Sabre women’s basketball closes season against Lakeland

Marian University women’s basketball (7-18, 5-11 NACC) completed its season falling to Lakeland 66-54.

  • Marian had a quick start and led early 9-2.
  • A 10-4 run from the Sabres to close out the quarter gave Marian a 19-10 lead heading into the second.
  • The Sabres maintained its double-digit lead out to 24-14 before Lakeland ended the half on a 17-6 spurt to lead 31-30 at the break.
  • The second opened back-and-forth with Marian only trailing 42-41 with 5:55 left in the stanza.
  • The Muskies were then able to pull away with 10 unanswered points, in large part to strong three-point shooting, and went into the final 10 minutes ahead 52-43.
  • Lakeland continued its strong shooting from beyond the arc as Marian was unable to chip into its deficit before the final settled at 66-54.

  • Marian was 21-of-63 (.333) from the field and just 3-of-26 (.115) from beyond the arc.
  • Lakeland shot 23-of-67 (.343) going 9-of-28 (.321) on triples.
  • The Sabres finished with a 30-22 edge for points in the paint.
  • The Lakeland bench scored 40 of its 66 points.
  • Marian is now 10-62 all-time against Lakeland having dropped the last seven meetings.
