Sabre Softball Suffers Tough Sweep Against Benedictine

Marian University softball (14-16, 8-10 NACC) fell to Benedictine twice with final scores of 4-3 and 5-1.

GAME 1

  • The Eagles were quickly on the board scoring off of an error in the first.
  • The Benedictine lead was brought out to two before Marian got on the board in the third.
  • Marian then took a 3-2 lead in the fourth with a pair of runs highlighted by a run-producing single from senior Katelyn Mateanaer.
  • The next half inning saw Benedictine tie the game and the Eagles took the lead for good in the sixth.

GAME 2

  • Another defensive battle broke out in game two.
  • An error allowed Marian to score first in the fourth inning.
  • The Marian lead only lasted a half inning as Benedictine immediately answering with a run off of an error as well.
  • The 1-1 dead lock would hold until the seventh where Benedictine scored four unearned runs to take the lead for good.
  • All five of the Benedictine runs were unearned.

GAME 1

Senior Katelyn Matenaer finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run driven in.
Senior Evelynn Spaeth was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Freshman McKenna Repovich tossed 2.0 innings allowing just three hits and striking out three hitters.

GAME 2

Sophomore Sofia Cerullo was 2-for-3.
Senior Cailie Pliner (4-7) tossed all 7.0 innings and didn’t allow an earned run.
Junior Kendall Pliner was 2-for-4 at the plate.
