Sabre softball suffers sweep heading into off day

Marian University softball (1-5, 0-0 NACC) fell to St. Vincent 5-3 and Adrian 13-5 in five innings before its off day.

GAME 1 (L, 5-3, HOME)

  • After a scoreless opening frame, SVC was able to jump out to a big lead thanks to a four-run fourth inning and two more in the fourth.
  • The Sabres showed life in the bottom of the fourth scoring a pair of runs highlighted by a run-producing double from senior Ariana Schliepp.
  • Schliepp then hit her first home run of the season to put Marian within two in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Marian was able to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t manage to rally.

GAME 2 (L, 13-5 [5], AWAY)

  • Marian had a strong start to game two when senior Kendall Pliner drove in a pair of runs with a single in the opening frame.
  • The Sabre lead didn’t last long, however, as Adrian scored three runs in the next half inning and another trio of runs in the second.
  • A long ball from sophomore Savanna Knuth in th fourth inning cut the Marian deficit to 6-3.
  • Just like the first inning, though, Adrian responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to lead 9-3.
  • Pliner and Knuth each drove in a run in the fifth as well to put Marian behind 9-5.
  • Adrian closed out the game in the next half inning, though plating four runs.

Senior Ariana Schliepp was 3-for-7 (.429) on the day with two runs driven in and two runs scored.
Sophomore Savanna Knuth was 2-for-3 with two runs driven in and one run scored against Adrian.
Sophomore McKenna Repovich allowed just one run over 3.2 innings of relief against St. Vincent.

Female softball pitcher
