Sabre softball suffers sweep at Aurora

Marian University softball (13-11, 7-5 NACC) was defeated by Aurora 9-1 in five innings and 7-6 in NACC action.

GAME 1

  • Marian was able to open the scoring for the day when junior Kendall Pliner drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
  • The Spartans responded with four runs in their half of the first with two being unearned.
  • Aurora would go on to score in every inning of game one with two runs in the third.

GAME 2

  • Pliner, K. got the scoring started again in game two driving in a run in teh first.
  • A two-run homer in the bottom half gave the Spartans the lead only for freshman Erin Cowe to tie the game in the next half inning.
  • Aurora would manage two runs in teh third and fourth inning to build a 6-2 advantage.
  • The Sabres stormed back in the sixth plating four runs. 
  • Senior Evelynn Spaeth and sophomore Ariana Schliepp each drove in a run before an error scored two runs to tie the game at 6-6.
  • The Spartans were able to quickly retake the lead with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to seal the sweep.

Junior Kendall Pliner drove in a run in each game and was 3-for-4 in game two.
Freshman Savanna Knuth had a hit in both games and was 2-for-4 with two runs in the second game.
Sophomore Riley Mankowski was 3-for-4 with a run scored in the second game.

Women playing college softball
