Sabre softball finishes spring trip

Marian University softball (3-7, 0-0 NACC) finished its spring trip falling 4-2 to Gordon and 2-0 to Husson.

GAME 1 (GORDON, L, 4-2)

  • The day started slowly for the Sabres as Gordon scored all four of its runs in the first two innings.
  • All three runs that Marian allowed in the second inning were unearned.
  • A wild pitch helped Marian get back into the game in the fifth as sophomore Aubrey Bender was able to score.
  • Junior Savanna Knuth then cut the Marian deficit to two with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
  • Marian was able to get the tying run on base in the seventh only for a ground out to end the game.

GAME 2 (HUSSON, L, 2-0)

  • A pitching duel broke out in game two with Husson plating a run in the opening frame.
  • The Eagles added to their lead in the third at 2-0.
  • Marian put together rallies in the sixth and the seventh but were unable to plate any runs.

GAME 1

  • Marian was outhit by a slim 8-7 margin.
  • The Sabres committed four errors defensively leading to three unearned Gordon runs.
  • Marian is now 1-3 all-time against Gordon with this being the first meeting since 2020.

GAME 2

  • Marian was limited to just three hits and allowed six hits.
  • The Sabres didn’t commit an error while Husson had a pair of defensive miscues.
  • This was the first time this season Marian was shutout.
  • This was the first meeting between the two teams since 2011 with Husson also winning that previous game.

Junior Mackenzie Christofferson was the lone Sabre with a hit in each game and reached safely three times against Gordon.
Senior Hope Matta was 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored against Gordon.
Junior McKenna Repovich tossed 3.0 innings between both games allowing only one hit.
