Sabre softball drops opening games in Florida

Marian University softball (0-2, 0-0 NACC) opened its season falling to Illinois College and Lebanon Valley.

GAME 1 (ILLINOIS COLLEGE, L, 8-3)

  • Illinois College was able to take advantage of an error in the first inning to build a 2-0 lead.
  • A first-and-third double steal from the Sabres cut the deficit down to 2-1 in the next half inning.
  • IC was able to rebuild its lead back out to 4-1 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second.
  • Marian was able to battle back when sophomore Aubrey Bender drove in a pai rof runs in the top of the fourth.
  • The Lady Blues were able to put the game away scoring four unanswered runs, however.

GAME 2 (LEBANON VALLEY, L, 5-3)

  • The second game of the day saw LVC take an early lead scoring four runs in the second.
  • The Dutchmen were able to add to its lead in the top fo the fourth before Marian showed life.
  • The Sabres were able to cut their deficit down to 5-3 with a three run fifth inning.
  • Bender drove in the opening run of the inning followed by run-producing singles from seniors Carissa Heisdorf and Ariana Schliepp.
  • Marian managed just one runner the rest of the game, however, suffering a season-opening sweep.

GAME 1

  • Illinois College outhit Marian 6-4 in the game.
  • Three Sabre errors allowed IC to plate five unearned runs.
  • Marian is now 2-3 all-time against the Lady Blues having dropped the last two meetings.

GAME 2

  • Each team had nine hits in the game.
  • Marian had the lone error of the game but all runs were earned.
  • This was the first meeting between the two teams.

Sophomore Aubrey Bender had two hits and drove in three runs.
Senior Ariana Schliepp had a pair of hits on the day and drove in a run.
Senior Morgan Mack appeared in both games allowing just one run over 3.0 innings.
