Sabre NCAA men’s hockey suffers sweep at Aurora

Marian University NCAA men’s hockey (8-13-0, 3-9-1-1 NCHA) scored late but fell to Aurora 3-1 on the road.

  • Marian was able to outshoot the Spartans in the opening period but saw the Spartans score the only goal of the stanza with 6:07 left on a power play.
  • Aurora netted the lone goal of the second period as well at the 7:34 mark.
  • A second power-play goal from the Spartans opened the scoring in the third period at the 9:10 mark.
  • The Sabres were finally able to light the lamp with 1:53 left with an extra-attacker and power-play goal from freshman Sheldon Kwiatkowski.
  • Marian wouldn’t be able to muster anything else with an empty net on their end of the ice.

  • Aurora held a slim 32-29 advantage for shots in the game where Marian had double-digit shots in two periods.
  • The two squads combined for 73 penalty minutes.
  • Marian was 1-for-4 (.250) on the power play, while Aurora was 2-for-4 (.500).
