Sabre NCAA men’s hockey stumbles at MSOE

Marian University men’s ice hockey (7-13-0, 4-9-0 NCHA) fell on the road at MSOE by a 4-2 final to open an NCHA series.

  • MSOE was able to find the back of the net first scoring with 7:12 left in the first period.
  • Freshman Brendan Bottem responded with a power-play goal just 1:24 later to tie the game, assists to senior Daunte Fortner and junior Noah Pickart.
  • The Raiders had a response just 37 seconds later to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
  • MSOE added to its lead just 3:09 later to go up 3-1.
  • With just 2:20 left in the second, senior Jaymes Knee netted a 5-on-3 goal with assists to freshman Brandon Modde and Pickart.
  • This put Marian behind just 3-2 heading into the final period.
  • The Sabres struggled offensively in the final 20 minutes and MSOE was able to finish the game off with an empty-net score.

  • Each team had 22 shots in the game with Marian holding a 13-5 advantage in the second period.
  • The Sabre power play was 2-for-6 on the night, while the penalty kill didn’t allow a goal on three chances.
  • Marian finished with a 29-25 advantage on draws.
  • This is the first game this season Marian has scored multiple power-play goals.
  • The Sabres are now 54-36-2 all-time against MSOE with the Raiders having won six of the last seven meetings.
