Marian University NCAA men’s ice hockey (4-4-0, 1-1-1-1 NCHA) fought an uphill battle most of the day falling to Plattsburgh State 5-3 in the consolation game of the LayerEight Shooout.

- It took the Cardinals only 49 seconds to open the scoring for the game.
- Sophomore Caden Carlson had an answer at the 4:53 mark with a power-play goal, assists to seniors Jaymes Knee and Daunte Fortner.
- PSU then scored at the 8:43 mark and 9:45 mark to take a 3-1 advantage.
- Marian was able to build momentum going into the first intermission when Knee scored with 2:44 left in the period with assists from sophomore Hayden Tuba and freshman Brendan Bottem.
- Freshman Robert Pizzey then tied the game at 3-3 scoring his first collegiate goal just 2:28 into the second period with assists from freshman Edison Weeks and sophomore Nolan Flint.
- A short-handed goal with 44 ticks left in the second gave PSU a 4-3 lead going into the final period.
- The Cardinals then scored just 1:03 into the final period to put the final at 5-3.

- The Sabres had double-digit shots in all three periods finishing with a 38-32 advantage in the category.
- Marian was 1-for-4 on the power play and killed off its lone penalty-kill chance.
- In the face-off circle, Marian had a 38-32 advantage.
- This was the first meeting between the two schools.
