Sabre NCAA men’s hockey faces elimination in NCHA Harris Cup Quarterfinals

Marian University NCAA men’s ice hockey (9-16-1, 6-11-1 NCHA) fell at No. 7 Trine 5-0 in the opening game of the NCHA Harris Cup Quarterfinals.

  • It took the Thunder just 24 seconds to open the scoring for the game, which proved to be enough.
  • The Thunder added a pair of goals in the second to lead 3-0 going into the final period.
  • Trine sealed the win with a pair of goals separated by just 21 seconds with the first being a short-handed empty-net score.

  • Marian was outshot 35-19 in the defeat and was limited to just four shots in teh final period.
  • The Thunder also had a 42-25 advantage on draws.
  • Neither team had a power-play goal with Marian having two chances and Trine five.
  • Marian will now need a victory in game two of the series to force a mini-game.
  • This was just the third time this season Marian was shutout.
  • The Sabres fall to 4-11-0 all-time against Trine, and just 1-8-0 at Thunder Ice Arena.
