Sabre NCAA men’s hockey drops opener at No. 10 SNC

Marian University NCAA men’s hockey (9-16-1, 4-10-2-2 NCHA) was defeated by No. 10 St. Norbert 6-1 in the opener of its NCHA Harris Cup Quarterfinals series.

  • The first 17 minutes saw neither offense find the back of the net.
  • St. Norbert would then score a pair of goals in the final 2:10 of the opening period to lead 2-0.
  • The Green Knights extended their lead to 4-0 after two periods scoring at 5:11 and 8:30 of the second stanza.
  • SNC continued the trend of two goals every period scoring with 9:00 and 4:32 on the clock to lead 6-0.
  • Marian would end the shutout with 3:44 left in the third when senior Blake Kleiner scored with assists from freshmen Cole Carlson and Caden Carlson.

  • St. Norbert scored on all three power-play chances they had while Marian was scoreless on two chances.
  • Marian will now need a regulation win in the finale of the series to force a mini-game.
