Sabre NCAA men’s hockey drops heartbreaker to No. 7 Trine

A day after Marian University NCAA men’s ice hockey (8-14-1, 5-10-1 NCHA) won with 10.7 seconds left, No. 7 Trine scored with 3.6 seconds remaining to defeat the Sabres 3-2.

  • The Thunder were able to get out to a strong start scoring 8:35 into the game to take an early lead.
  • The one-goal advantage held all the way into the third period.
  • A strong start to the third period for Marian saw senior Matteo Pecchia score 2:20 in with assists to senior Jaymes Knee and freshman Robert Pizzey.
  • Then just 20 seconds later, sophomore Caden Carlson lit the lamp with an assist from freshman Edison Weeks and junior Noah Pickart.
  • Trine found an equalizer with 5:03 left and eventually scored the game-winning goal with just 3.6 seconds on the clock.

  • The Sabres also had a 29-24 edge for face-offs.
  • Neither side had a power-play goal with Marian having four chances and Trine two.
  • Marian is 1-7-0 against teams in the national rankings.

Sophomore Caden Carlson scored his fifth goal of the season and was 10-for-14 on face-offs.
Freshman Edison Weeks earned an assist and has had at least a point in all but four games in the second half.
Sophomore Andreai Proctor-Ramirez (1-3-0) finished with 15 saves.
