Sabre NCAA men’s hockey drops finale with Concordia

Marian University NCAA men’s ice hockey  (3-8-2, 2-6-0 NCHA) scored first but fell to Concordia by a 5-2 final.

  • Marian couldn’t have had a better start with sophomore Eemil Rautio scoring just one minute in with help from junior Cole Carlson and freshman Andrew Politoski.
  • The lead lasted only 2:46 before teh Cobbers knotted the game at 1-1.
  • This score held into the second period before a power-play goal from Concordia gave the Cobbers their first lead at the 5:25 mark.
  • They were able to add to the lead and led 3-1 going into the third scoring with just 3:09 in the period.
  • Marian was able to cut their deficit down to one with 6:57 to play when senior Noah Pickart scored off of a face-off win from junior Nolan Flint.
  • The Cobbers scored the final two goals of the game, the second coming on an empty net, to put the final at 5-2.

  • Shots favored Concordia by a 30-37 margin with the two squads combining for 27 shots in the final period.
  • Just like the opener, the Cobbers had the lone power-play goal of the game on four chances, while Marian was scoreless on three opportunities.
  • The Sabres had 40 wins on face-offs to only 26 for the Cobbers.
  • Marian falls to 5-6-2 all-time against Concordia, 0-2-1 in the last three meetings.

Sophomore Eemil Rautio had a goal to give him a point in the last four games.
Senior Noah Pickart scored his first goal of the season and is also on a four-game point streak.
Sophomore Nicholas Von Kaufmann (0-3-2) made 25 saves in goal.
