Sabre men’s volleyball swept by Eagles in return to midwest

 Marian University men’s volleyball (10-12, 3-4 NACC) fell to Benedictine in its return to conference play 25-15, 25-22, 25-20.

  • Marian scored four of the first six points to open the match before Benedictine broke the set open with a 13-4 run.
  • A 6-1 spurt shortly after from Benedictine allowed the Eagles to cruise to the win.
  • The Sabres had a similar 9-7 lead to start the second before the Eagles went on a 7-1 run to lead by four.
  • Benedictine brought that lead out to 21-17 when Marian was able to cut their deficit down to one twice with the second instance coming at 23-22.
  • The late rally fell short for Marian as the Eagles took advantage of a service error and attacking error.
  • After another 8-7 Sabre lead started the third, Benedictine was able to pull away with a 9-3 run and secure a sweep.

  • Benedictine led the way in kills by a 37-27 margin and digs by a 36-21 edge.
  • The Sabres hit just .103 in the match but finished strong hitting .269 in the third set.
  • Marian is winless in 13 matches against Benedictine.

Junior CJ Kendrick led the Marian back row with eight digs.
Senior Trent Goo Sun had 16 assists and five digs.
