Sabre men’s volleyball suffers first home loss to No. 12 Loras

Marian University men’s volleyball (6-4, 1-0 NACC) was defeated at home for the first time this season falling to No. 12 Loras 25-20, 25-13, 25-15.

  • The Sabres only trailed 10-8 in the opening set before Loras went on a 7-1 run to lead 17-9.
  • A 6-2 run from Marian later in the set saw that lead shrink to 23-19, but the Duhawks held Marian from coming any closer.
  • The two squads went point-for-point to open the second set with a 7-7 stalemate to start.
  • The Duhawks then pulled away going on a 12-2 run to lead 19-9.
  • Loras led by as many as 12 points before taking the set 25-13.
  • The third set saw Loras come out firing opening with a 7-3 lead.
  • A 9-2 run from the Duhawks later in the set put Loras ahead 19-8 and they were able to cruise to the sweep.

  • Loras held a 40-29 advantage for kills in the match and hit .515 with only five errors.
  • The Duhawks also finished with a 30-19 edge for digs.
  • Marian is now 3-6 all-time against Loras having dropped the last five meetings.

Freshman Adrian Calderon had a team-high nine kills along with a solo block.
Senior Derek Wills posted eight kills to go with a team-high five digs.
Freshman Giancarlo Bou had 12 assists and a pair of service aces.
