Sabre men’s soccer draws with Lakeland

Marian University men’s soccer (3-10-4, 2-7-2 NACC) settled for a 2-2 draw against Lakeland in its final home conference game of the season.

  • The Sabres had a strong start to the game and were able to capitalize at the 13:02 mark with the first goal of the game.
  • Junior Vince Sanchez sent a corner kick to the middle of the box that found the head of junior Nathan Blazenko who netted his fourth goal.
  • Lakeland was able to build momentum as the half went on and found an equalizer in the 35th minute.
  • The 1-1 score held going into halftime.
  • Another strong start from the Sabres saw Marian quickly take the lead 11:31 into the second half.
  • Junior Owen Holevas sent in a high ball that drew the keeper out and opened the door for freshman Micah Boyer to net his fourth score of the year.
  • This lead didn’t last long as Lakeland quickly tied the game at 2-2 just 34 seconds later.
  • There would only be two shots on goal the remainder of the way leading to a draw.

  • Lakeland held a slim 15-12 edge for shots and an 8-3 advantage for shots on goal.
  • Marian held the advantage for corner kicks by a 4-2 margin.
  • The Sabres had 19 fouls with three yellow cards to 13 fouls and four bookings for the Muskies.
  • Marian is now 30-11-5 all-time against Lakeland with this being the second straight 2-2 draw.

Freshman Micah Boyer was the lone Sabre with multiple shots on goal and scored a go-ahead goal in the second half.
Junior Nathan Blazenko opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the game.
Freshman Connor Farrell (1-6-1) made six saves in goal with four coming in the first half.
