Sabre men’s lacrosse suffers from slow start at Benedictine

Marian University men’s lacrosse (1-6, 0-3 NACC) had a slow start and ultimately fell to Benedictine by a 20-8 final.

  • Benedictine controlled most of the first quarter and scored the first seven goals of the game.
  • The Eagles would ultimately take a 9-1 advantage into the second quarter.
  • Each team had a pair of goals in the second quarter with senior Hayden Powless scoring both Marian goals.
  • This put the Sabres down 11-3 at halftime.
  • Marian would trail 14-5 in the third quarter before Benedictine scored four unanswered to lead 18-5 after three quarters.
  • The Sabres had their best quarter come in the fourth outscoring the Eagles 3-2 with Powless netting another pair of goals, one being a man-up score.

  • The Eagles had a strong game on face offs as well winning 22 of the 30 draws.
  • Marian scored the lone man-up goal of the game, Powless in the fourth quarter.
  • Benedictine has won all eight match-ups against Marian.

Senior Hayden Powless scored a season-high four goals and also led the team with four caused turnovers.
Junior Serge Simard had two goals with an assist and led the team with four ground balls.
Sophomore Jackson Sweeney finished with 11 saves, his third straight game with double-digit saves.
