Sabre men’s lacrosse comes up short in loss to Clarke

Sophomore Benett Luke notched a hat trick as Marian University men’s lacrosse (0-2, 0-0 NACC) fell 9-4 to Clarke.

  • Sophomore Benett Luke opened the scoring for the Sabres with an assist from senior Devon Butler, tying the game at 1-1 to end the first quarter.
  • The Pride erupted for four unanswered goals in less than five minutes, outshooting the Sabres 19-2 in the second quarter. The Sabres committed 15 turnovers in the quarter. 
  • Marian came out of halftime with freshman Franklin Lund scoring a man-up goal on an assist from sophomore Brandon Fain, giving him a team-leading four goals through two games.
  • Two more Clarke goals extended the Pride’s lead to five midway through the third.
  • Luke led a late Marian surge with two unassisted goals, cutting the deficit to three and tying his career high with three goals.
  • Two late goals by Clarke sealed a 9-4 win for the Pride.
