Sabre men’s hockey struggles to slow down Foresters

Marian University NCAA men’s ice hockey  (2-7-1, 1-6-0 NCHA) had the lead twice but was defeated by Lake Forest 7-3.

  • Marian needed just 2:20 of action to open the scoring when sophomore Eemil Rautio scored with help from freshman Daxton Lang and junior Jordan Edwards.
  • The Foresters had a response at the 5:11 mark to tie the game.
  • The Sabres were able to retake the lead when sophomore Brendan Bottem lit the lamp with 8:47 left in the opening period, assist to fellow sophomore Lucas Jeffreys.
  • Lake Forest then tied the game and took its first lead with a pair of goals separated by just 44 seconds.
  • Junior Cole Carlson nearly tied the game at 3-3 just 32 seconds into the second period but a quality look rang off the post.
  • A pair of quick strikes separated by just 29 seconds gave LFC a 5-2 lead.
  • Marian was able to cut the deficit down to 5-3 with just 25 seconds remaining in the second period with a 5-on-3 goal.
  • This time Carlson was able to take care of business with assists to Rautio and senior Noah Pickart.
  • LFC was able to put the game away in the third period scoring at the 6:20 mark and adding an empty-net score with 2:31 left.

Sophomore Eemil Rautio had his second multi-point game of the season scoring once and adding an assist.  He also won 8-of-12 face-offs.
Sophomore Brendan Bottem scored a goal to push his point streak to five games.
Junior Cole Carlson scored his third goal of the season.
