Sabre men’s hockey falls in overtime to Augsburg

Marian University men’s ice hockey (5-8-0, 2-4-0 NCHA) scored three times in the first 4:18 but fell to Augsburg 4-3 in overtime.

  • Marian wasted no time with senior James Knee scoring 1:13 into the game with an assist from freshman Edison Weeks.
  • Then at the 4:04 mark, senior Daunte Fortner lit the lamp with assists from Knee and freshman Brandon Modde.
  • It took 14 seconds for Fortner to find the back of the net for a second time, assists to Knee and Weeks, to put Marian ahead 3-0.
  • This 3-0 advantage held going into the second period of action.
  • The Auggies were able to trim the deficit to one with goals at the 9:31 and 14:19 mark.
  • Augsburg was then able to force overtime after scoring with 14:50 left in the final period.
  • After Marian possessed the puck for most of overtime, Augsburg netted the game-winner with just 1:36 left.

  • Marian was outshot by a slim 32-28 margin.
  • Neither team had a power-play goal with Augsburg having three chances and just one for Marian.
  • Face-offs finished nearly identical with Augsburg holding a slim 37-34 edge.
  • This was the sixth overtime game for Marian this season with the Sabres now holding a 3-3 record in such games.
