Sabre men’s hockey drops opener to SNC after slow start

Marian University NCAA men’s hockey (3-5-0, 2-3-0-0 NCHA) fell to St. Norbert 6-2 snapping a three-game winning streak.

  • St. Norbert was able to get off to a quick start scoring just 1:49 into the game.
  • The Green Knights gave themselves a 2-0 lead scoring at the 6:22 mark.
  • This score held into the first intermission and just 55 seconds into the second SNC found themselves ahead 3-0.
  • Senior Nolan Kadachuk lit the lamp at the 6:05 mark with assists from sophomore Noah Pickart and freshman Colby Feist to put the Sabre deficit to 3-1.
  • SNC had an answer scoring goals with 9:57 and 4:10 left, the second coming on a power play to lead 5-1.
  • Marian showed life to open the third period when junior Jaymes Knee scored with assists to sophomore Luca Marcellitti and senior Alex Rondeau.
  • The Green Knights would close out the scoring with a short-handed goal with just 2:12 left to play.

  • Marian was outshot 32-25 for the game and 18-8 in the opening period.  The Sabres did hold a 9-5 edge for shots in goal in the final period.
  • St. Norbert also held a hefty advantage in face-offs by a 36-26 margin.
  • The Sabre penalty kill allowed one goal on five chances, while the power play was scoreless on just one opportunity.
  •  St. Norbert has now won eight of the last 10 meetings after Marian went 1-0-1 in the regular season last year.

Senior Nolan Kadachuk opened the scoring for Marian with his second goal of the season.
Junior Jaymes Knee netted his third goal of the year.
Senior Thomas Lemire appeared in his third game making five saves with one goal allowed over 24:10.
