Sabre men’s basketball suffers set back at Dominican

Marian University men’s basketball (2-13, 2-7 NACC) was defeated by Dominican 68-58 in NACC action.

  • Dominican jumped out to the first sizable lead at 13-6 but Marian would respond with nine straight points to lead 15-13.
  • The Stars had an answer of their own following the Sabre run with a 18-2 spurt of their own.
  • Marian was able to chip away at this deficit and only trailed 38-35 going into halftime.
  • The Sabres would open the scoring for the second half to only trail by one but it proved to be the closest Marian would get.
  • Following the 38-37 score, Dominican went on a quick 9-2 run to lead by eight and the remainder of the half saw each side go shot for shot.
  • Marian was able to trim its deficit down to two at one point but Dominican was able to hold off the momentum shift and earn the 68-58 win.

  • Marian would only go 22-of-65 (.338) from the field and 5-of-24 (.208) from three-point range.
  • Dominican had a strong game shooting going 24-of-41 (.585) and 9-of-21 (.429) from beyond the arc.
  • The Sabre defense was able to force 22 turnovers and outscored the Stars 24-16 in points off turnovers.
  • Marian also had 15 offensive rebounds but could only manage eight second chance points.
  • The defeat snaps a four-game winning streak in the all-time series for Marian against Dominican.  The Sabres are now 25-12 all-time against the Stars and 10-9 on the road.

Junior JeanLuc Wilson led the way for Marian scoring 17 points to go with five rebounds.
Senior Eli Vogel added 13 points, his second game in the second half with double-digit points.
