Sabre men’s basketball posts strong second half at MSOE

Marian University men’s basketball (4-20, 4-13 NACC) fell to MSOE 87-76 in its final road game of the season despite a strong second half.

  • MSOE got out to a strong start scoring the first nine points of the game and quickly finding themselves ahead 14-2.
  • An 8-1 run from Marian saw the Sabres cut their deficit down to five, but the Raiders answered with a 15-2 spurt of their own.
  • MSOE built its lead to as large as 25 points in the first half with Marian trailing 44-23 at the break.
  • The Raiders maintained its lead for the opening minutes of the second half and led 56-34 with 14:03 to play.
  • Marian was able to show life with a 14-3 run to only trail 11 with 9:33 on the clock.
  • The two teams then went back-and-forth with Marian cutting its deficit down to as little as eight with 3:47 left.
  • MSOE was able to ice the game scoring 11 unanswered points with the final settling at 87-76.
  • The Sabres were able to outscore the Raiders 53-43 in the second half.

  • Marian finished the game going 28-of-58 (.483) and 10-of-26 (.385) on three-pointers. 
  • The Sabres were 20-of-32 (.625) from the field and 6-of-13 (.462) from beyond the arc in the second half.
  • MSOE shot 31-of-56 (.554) and 9-of-18 (.500) on three-pointers.
  • The Raiders outscored Marian 11-0 on second chance points after out-rebounding Marian 40-21.
  • The Sabres had a 9-2 advantage when it came to fastbreak points.

Junior JeanLuc Wilson had a career-high 27 points to go with five rebounds and three steals.
Senior Mason Khalu tied a season-high with 11 points off the bench.
Sophomore Tyler Bunkoske had 10 points off the bench and three assists.
