Sabre men’s basketball falls to IIT at home

Marian University men’s basketball (0-6, 0-3 NACC) had one tough stretch in a 74-65 loss against Illinois Tech.

  • Scoring was at a premium to start as Marian took an early 9-3 lead with 13:19 left in the first half.
  • Illinois Tech would cut its deficit to two at 20-18 and the remainder of the first half would be a one-possession game.
  • The Scarlet Hawks managed to take a 30-29 advantage into halftime.
  • Illinois Tech scored the first 13 points of the second half to build a 43-29 lead.
  • Marian wouldn’t go away quietly responding with nine unanswered point to only trail 43-38 with 13:30 on the clock.
  • Illinois Tech had a response of its own going on a 10-1 spurt to extend its lead back out to 14 at 53-39.
  • The Sabres were able to trail by as little as six in the final minute but IIT was able to ice the game going 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
  • The late free throws would put the final at 74-65.
