Sabre men’s basketball defense struggles at Lakeland

Marian University men’s basketball (12-3, 5-3 NACC) allowed a season-worst 84 points in regulation falling at Lakeland 84-72.

  • Marian had a slow start and found themselves trailing 17-7 7:30 into the game.
  • The Muskies brought their lead out to 26-17 before Marian cut its deficit to one with a 10-2 run.
  • Lakeland quickly responded with an 11-2 spurt of their own to build some breathing room and went into halftime ahead 42-33.
  • Marian chipped away at its deficit to start the second half tying the game at 45-45 and taking the lead at 53-50.
  • Lakeland then took the lead for good with a 21-6 run to lead 71-59 with 6:17 to play.
  • The Muskies maintained a double-digit lead for most of the remainder with the final settling at 84-72.

  • Marian finished 26-of-65 (.400) from the field and just 4-of-22 (.182) from beyond the arc.
  • Lakeland shot 31-of-56 (.554) and 10-of-22 (.455) on three-point attempts.
  • The Sabres had 16 offensive rebounds, the second most in a single game this season.
  • Lakeland finished with a 14-4 edge in fastbreak points.
  • Marian is now 42-40 all-time against Lakeland with the defeat snapping a seven-game winning streak in the all-time series.

Sophomore Andrew Ayeni added 10 points to go with seven rebounds.
Junior Brandon Adorno chipped in 13 points with a block and a steal.
