Sabre field hockey suffers first loss against Maryville

Marian University field hockey (2-1, 0-0 SAA) suffered its first loss of the season falling to Maryville 6-0.

  • The opening half saw both defenses take control as the two squads only combined for four shots.
  • It wouldn’t be until 3:39 that Maryville was able to break the scoreless tie.
  • The Saints were able to build a cushion scoring twice in the final 4:22 and went into the half ahead 3-0.
  • The opening minutes of the second half were similar to the first quarter but over the final 7:33 the Saints were able to extend their lead to 6-0.
  • The final stanza was even with neither team scoring to settle the final at 6-0.
  • Sophomore Eva Houtackers nearly put Marian on the board but her penalty stroke hit the left post.

  • The Saints outshot Marian 25-8, 16-4 in shots on goal, but the fourth quarter saw each shot record five shots.
  • Marian was able to force six penalty corners to 10 for Maryville.
  • The Saints have beaten the Sabres in both match-ups.

Freshman Emilee Clarey (2-1) made a career-high nine saves in goal for the Sabres.
Sophomore Allyson Nichols led the Sabres with five shots, three of which were on goal.
Sophomore Macenzie Rosenberger had a defensive save, the first of her career.
