Sabre field hockey ousted from CFHC Tournament by Sewanee

Marian University field hockey (7-11, 1-4 CFHC) was defeated by Sewanee 4-1 in the opening round of the CFHC Tournament to end its season.

  • Marian was able to get out to a strong start and opened the scoring for the game just 4:58 in when junior Jikke Biemans found the back of the cage.
  • The Sabre lead didn’t last long, however, as Sewanee scored just 51 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The Tigers were then able to take their first lead of the game at the 25:20 mark and took the 2-1 lead into halftime.
  • Sewanee added to its lead just 49 seconds into the second half and concluded the scoring at the 38:11 mark.

  • Marian was outshot 21-6 in the defeat and 17-6 for shots on goal.
  • All six shots the Sabres had came in the opening quarter.
  • Sewanee had 14 penalty corners to just one for Marian, which also came in the first quarter.
  • The Tigers were called for 52 fouls to 46 for Marian.
  • Sewanee swept the season series from Marian with three victories, but the Sabres maintain a 4-3 lead in the all-time series.
  • Marian is still in search of its first postseason victory.

Sophomore Emilee Clarey (5-11) finished with 13 saves and had six of her stops come in the second quarter.
Freshman Clara Guivernau Ragghianti had a pair of shots on goal.
