Marian University baseball (6-11, 1-5 NACC) suffered a sweep against Illinois Tech falling 12-5 and 9-6 in 10 innings.

GAME 1

  • Illinois Tech opened the scoring with two runs in the first and another in the third.
  • A solo shot from junior Danny Santiago in the third put Marian on the board, and junior Jason Sims tied the game in the fourth driving in a pair of runs with a single.
  • The Scarlet Hawks retook the lead with three runs in the fifth and broke the game open with a five-run seventh.
  • Freshman Connor Schroeder drove in a pair of runs with a double in the ninth to put the final at 12-5.

GAME 2

  • The Scarlet Hawks were able to jump out to an early lead in game two as well plating a pair of runs in the first.
  • A run-producing single from Santiago cut the Marian deficit in half in the second inning.
  • Illinois Tech was able to plate a run in each inning from the fourth to the seventh to lead 6-1.
  • The Sabre rally began after the stretch when freshman Randall Von Haden hit a pinch-hit three-run homer.
  • Schroeder then put Marian within one with a bases-loaded walk later in the inning.
  • The Sabres were down to their final out before a failed pickoff attempt help put junior Marc Jones on third.
  • The next pitch saw Jones touch home to tie the game off of a wild pitch.
  • The Scarlet Hawks responded plating three runs in the top half of the 10th inning.
  • Marian was able to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom half but were unable to plate any runs.

  • Illinois Tech held a 14-7 ege for hits.
  • The Sabres had four defensive miscues, which led to two unearned runs.
  • The Scarlet Hawks also had an error and it led to one unearned run.
  • Marian stranded the bases loaded in the second and third inning.
  • The Sabres are now 7-14 all-time against the Scarlet Hawks with just a 1-5 record at home.
