Sabre baseball finishes homestand with split of Edgewood

Marian University baseball (14-11, 8-4 NACC) fell to Edgewood 7-2 before earning an 18-4 win in seven innings to close out a seven-game homestand.

GAME 1
  • Edgewood struck quickly in the top of the first for a run only for senior Logan Rademan to drive in a run with a double in the bottom half for the Sabres.
  • The Eagles responded the next half inning with another run and took a 4-1 lead with two runs in the fourth.
  • Marian was able to cut the deficit down to two with an unearned run in the sixth as senior Albert Kiszka drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
  • Edgewood was able to put the game away, however, in the top of the seventh after scoring three runs.

GAME 2

  • The Sabre offense came alive in the second game scoring at least three runs in the first four innings.
  • Marian was able to open the game with a six-run rally in the first inning.
  • Senior Steven Russell highlighted the inning with a double that plated two runs.
  • The Sabres went up 9-0 after two innings with three more runs capped off by a single from graduate student Dylan Pease that plated a pair of Sabres.
  • Edgewood got on the board in the the third with three runs only for Marian to respond with five runs in the bottom half.
  • Marian would put the game away in the fourth taking an 18-3 lead with Kiszka and senior Tyler Blum each driving in two runs.
  • A run from the Eagles in the sixth put the final at 18-4.

GAME 1

Junior Gus Walker was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.
Junior Jacob Kleeman reached safely twice with a pair of walks.
Senior Tyler Blum scored a run.

GAME 2

Senior Albert Kiszka finished 3-for-4 with four runs scored and three driven in.
Freshman Patrick Flynn (2-0) went 5.2 innings allowing just two earned runs.
Junior James Bornick was 3-for-5 with three runs driven in and three runs scored.
