Sabre baseball falls in spring trip finale after late comeback

Marian University baseball (6-4, 0-0 NACC) closed out its spring trip falling to Russell Sage 10-8.

  • Russell Sage was able to get the offensive game going early with three runs in the first inning.
  • A sacrifice fly from Robbie Knorr and run-producing single from junior Ryan Nelson in the next half inning trimmed the Sabre deficit to one.
  • The Gators responded in the second, however, scoring two more runs to lead 5-2.
  • Marian was able to take its first lead with a big five-run fourth inning.
  • Senior Steven Russell began the rally with a double that scored a run.  
  • Junior Jordan Kleeman brought in two runs with a single to give Marian the lead.
  • A late error from the Gators put Marian ahead 7-5 after four innings.
  • The sixth inning saw each team score a run senior Andrew Schroeder bringing in the Marian run to put the Sabre lead at 8-6.
  • Russell Sage scored off of a balk in the seventh to cut the deficit to one.
  • The Gators then provided a final push to the comeback scoring three runs in the top of the ninth.
  • Marian was able to put the tying run in scoring position but couldn’t come up with a two-out base hit.

Senior Tyler Blum had another strong game goign 3-for-6 with a run scored and a run driven in.
Junior Brandon Moore went 4.1 innings out of the bullpen allowing just two hits and one run with six strikeouts.
Senior Logan Rademan was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a run driven in.
