Sabre ACHA D3 splits pair of thrillers against Loyola Chicago

Marian University ACHA D3 (2-6-0, 1-3-0 MACHA) split with Loyola Chicago defeating the Ramblers 3-2 in overtime before falling 4-3.

GAME 1 (W, 3-2 (OT))

  • The first two periods saw Loyola take control but Marian was able to limit the Ramblers to just one goal in each period.
  • Marian was able to rally from its 2-0 deficit in the final period opening with a gaol from Bennett Luke, assist to Noah Hipwell.
  • James Murphy then lit the lamp with just 27 seconds left to force overtime, Kaden Hansen and Brandon Fain each earned an assist.
  • Then 2:26 into overtime, Luke netted his second goal of the game, assists to Murphy and Hansen, to complete the rally.

GAME 2 (L, 4-3)

  • The Sabres were able to start the second game strong with Fain scoring the lone goal of the first period.
  • Marian was able to hold onto its lead heading into the third period after each team scored twice in the second.
  • Murphy and Hipwell were the goal scorers for the Sabres in the second period.
  • The Ramblers were able to tie the game with just 5:20 to play and scored the game-winner on a power play with just 24 ticks remaining.

  • Neither team had a power-play goal with Marian having three chances and Loyola two.

GAME 2

  • The Sabres outshot the Ramblers in the second period but were outshot 48-38 for the game.
  • Marian had one power-play score on five chances, while the Sabre penalty kill held the Ramblers to two power-play goals on nine opportunities.
  • Marian is now 2-2-0 all-time against Loyola Chicago.
