Amanda Roessler has been named the fifth head coach of the Marian University field hockey program.
“We are thrilled to welcome Amanda to Marian and take charge of the field hockey program,” said Director of Athletics Tony Draves. “We are confident under her leadership the program can build off of its recent success and reach new heights in the near future. Welcome to Marian, Amanda!”
Roessler takes over the Sabre field hockey program after competing collegiately at Swarthmore College and serving as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Brookfield Academy. As a defender, Roessler played in 40 games making 23 starts during her playing career with Swarthmore. The Garnet went 35-20 during her tenure qualifying for the Centennial Conference Tournament twice.
Swarthmore had 13 wins in two of her three seasons, a feat that hadn’t been accomplished since the 2000 and 1998 season, and reached the Centennial Conference Tournament Championship match in her senior season. Roessler served as a captain during that campaign as Swarthmore beat two nationally-ranked opponents, Bryn Mawr along with Franklin and Marshall, and found themselves in the national rankings for six weeks reaching as high as No. 18. Academically, Roessler earned a spot on the Centennial Conference Honor Roll three times and the NFHCA National Academic squad twice.
Roessler has been on the coaching staff for Lift Field Hockey Club since 2021 helping develop middle and high school student-athletes. She has also been a member of the National Senior Classical League and was elected as the vice president in 2022-23 before serving as the president of the organization in 2023-24. During this time, Roessler scheduled and managed the week-long annual convention athletic events. This includes the management of double-digit athletic competitions for nearly 1,000 high school student-athletes during the convention.
In high school, Roessler helped lead the Blue Knights to State Championships in back-to-back seasons in 2017 and 2018. She was also awarded the Varsity Merit Award for field hockey in 2018 and softball in 2019. Outside of Brookfield Academy, Roessler competed fro Milwaukee Field Hockey Club where she served as a captain during her time.
“I’m incredibly grateful to have worked with such dedicated, hard-working coaches over the years,” said Roessler. “I’m excited to bring that same level of dedication to the Marian University program in my home state.”
Roessler earned a bachelor of arts degree from Swarthmore College in 2024 and is expected to earn a masters degree from Harvard University Extension School in May of 2026.
