Rally falls short for Sabre baseball against Lawrence

Marian University baseball (4-5, 0-0 NACC) dropped its first game back in Wisconsin falling to Lawrence 6-4.

  • The Sabres were able to generate the first run when senior Gus Walker was hit by a pitch, stole two bases, and crossed home on a wild pitch.
  • Marian tacked on a run in the second with a sacrifice fly from senior Ryan Nelson.
  • Lawrence took its first lead in the next half inning plating three runs.
  • The next inning saw the Vikings score a pair of unearned runs to extend its lead to 5-2.
  • Then in the sixth, Lawrence scored its sixth unanswered run off of a double.
  • Marian showed life in the bottom half of the frame with graduate student Dylan Pease and sophomore Lucas Lemons each driving in a run to only trail 6-4.
  • The Sabres put the tying run in scoring position in the eighth and brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth but were unable to cut into its deficit.
  • Marian is now 8-5 all-time against Lawrence with the defeat snapping a three-game win streak.

Senior Tanner Alsteen went 2.2 innings out of the bullpen allowing just one earned run with four strikeouts.
Senior Gus Walker was 1-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
