Quick start not enough for Sabre women’s volleyball at Edgewood

Marian University women’s volleyball (13-10, 5-5 NACC) took the opening set but fell to Edgewood 18-25, 25-23, 25-22, and 25-21.

  • The largest lead to open the first set was just three as Edgewood found itself ahead 14-12.  
  • Marian then went on a 10-1 run to take a commanding 22-15 advantage.
  • The Sabres were then able to finish the set scoring three of the final four points.
  • After a back-and-forth start to the second saw Marian go ahead 11-8, Edgewood responded with a 6-1 spurt. 
  • The two squads then traded points leading to ties at 20 and 23 points.
  • The Eagles would even the sets after a kill and service ace ended the second set.
  • The competitive match continued to open the third with an 8-8 draw.
  • Marian eventually found themselves ahead 21-19 only to have the Eagles go on a 6-1 run to end the set.
  • Using the momentum from the strong finish, Edgewood opened the fourth set ahead 16-5.
  • Marian wouldn’t go away quietly going on a 15-4 spurt that tied the set at 20-20.
  • Edgewood was able to bounce back, however, and had another strong finish ending the match on a 5-1 spurt.

  • Marian hled a slim 47-44 edge in kills and outhit Edgewood .211 to .172.
  • Each front row had a busy match with the Sabres recording 11 blocks to 10 for Edgewood.
  • The Eagles held an advantage in digs at a slim 61-56 margin.
  • Edgewood has now won 20 matches in a row over Marian.

Freshman Olivia Buol continued her strong play of late with a match-high 11 kills off of a .235 hitting percentage.
Harley Bartels headshot Sophomore Harley Bartels hit .318 on the match with four assisted blocks and nine kills.
Senior Andrea Miller led the Sabre back row with 13 digs.
