Prizes, reading and fun start now with Summer Reading

Exciting activities, tasty prizes, and great books: It’s time to jump into Summer Reading at the Fond du Lac Public Library.

Starting Tuesday, June 1, the Fond du Lac Public Library invites users of all ages to “Color Your World,” the theme of Summer Reading @ FDLPL 2021.

All summer, the library will offer plenty to enjoy. Activities for all ages will be held throughout the program; highlights include scavenger hunts, a virtual talent show and the second-annual Teen Art Contest. Popular take-n-make activities return, too.

Virtual adult programs include a chance to relive favorite vacation memories via Zoom (July 1), a virtual painting night (July 29) and a night of prizes and Lotería, which is a traditional Mexican card game, via Zoom (Aug. 12).

For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, the Fond du Lac Public Library will hold a few in-person events as well, all planned safely for outdoor venues.

Pop artist and author Michael Albert will make his first visit to Fond du Lac to offer Pop Art Collage workshops for all ages. Adults and teens can register for a program Wednesday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Buttermilk Creek Park shelter, while kids can join a program Thursday, June 17 at 10 a.m. at the park. Registration is required at calendar.fdlpl.org.

Kids will love Storytime in the Park on Wednesday, July 7 at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. (registration required), while the whole family will enjoy a performance by the Green Lake Festival of Music Thursday, July 29 at 10 a.m. on Sheboygan Street adjacent to the Main Library.

Meanwhile, through Aug. 15, kids, teens, and adults may read their favorite books to earn prizes. New for 2021 is an online logging option: users can hop on the Fond du Lac Public Library’s online portal, Beanstack, to record their minutes of reading. A link to Beanstack is available at fdlpl.org/summer2021. Participation is easy, and earns readers instant rewards along the way as well as a chance at a grand prize at the end of the summer. All reading counts, and reading aloud counts for both the reader and the listener. Instant prizes include the popular Faris Popcorn, and a trove of grand prizes may be previewed at fdlpl.org/summer2021.

The whole community could win, too, if participants can reach 2 million minutes of reading. A special community prize will be announced later this summer.
