One quarter sinks Sabre women’s basketball

Marian University women’s basketball (3-12, 1-5 NACC) was defeated by Benedictine 64-49.

  • Marian closed out the opening quarter with five unanswered points and led 12-8 after the first 10 minutes.
  • Benedictine dominated in the second quarter, however, outscoring Marian 23-8 to take a 31-20 lead into halftime.
  • The Sabres were only outscored 19-16 in the third quarter and 14-13 in the final stanza but couldn’t overcome the tough second quarter.
  • Without the second quarter, Marian was in a 41-41 deadlock with the Eagles.

  • Benedictine finished 23-of-61 (.377) from the field and 7-of-27 (.259) on triples.
  • In the third quarter, the Sabres shot 6-of-12 (.500) from the field.
  • The Eagles finished with a 32-16 advantage for points in the paint.
  • Marian is now 3-24 all-time against the Eagles having dropped 18 straight.
