Marian University Athletics has announced the addition of Dan Nelson as an assistant athletic trainer.
Nelson becomes a Sabre after spending the past five years in the dual-degree program at Concordia Wisconsin. While at CUW, Nelson worked with various athletic programs including men’s basketball, various hockey programs, softball, football, and wrestling. In his fifth year with the program, he was elevated to the head student role where he gained a larger leadership role and worked with the Falcon football program.
Academically, Nelson was named to the Dean’s List every year of his time at CUW and was the recipient of the Ken Weidt Athletic Training Scholarship, in honor of outstanding academic performance. His senior capstone was centered around the relationship between range of motion in the hip with ACL injuries. As part of his capstone, he observed ACL reconstruction and menisectomy surgeries in 2022.
Along with his work with Concordia Wisconsin, Nelson spent time with Saint Augustine Preparatory Academy and the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Arena Soccer League.

Nelson competed on the CUW men’s lacrosse team as a defenseman from 2019-2021. In the 2021 season he started in 10 games recording 20 ground balls to go with 12 caused turnovers. He is certified for basic life support through the American Heart Association, has an Emergency Medical Technicians B license, and attained his Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers through the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
He also spends time as a part-time firefighter with the Port Washington Fire Department.
