Moraine Park’s 2021 Community Partnership Award Presented to ASTOP

Moraine Park Technical College has presented ASTOP with its 2021 Community Partnership Award. This award recognizes a community organization that has gone above and beyond in their role of working with Moraine Park students in community impact opportunities.

ASTOP is a sexual assault service provider that serves Fond du Lac, Green Lake and Waushara counties. They offer treatment, outreach, prevention, and advocacy, emphasizing hope and connection to self and others. In 2021, despite Covid restrictions, Moraine Park student volunteers served more than 300 hours at ASTOP.

“We are so grateful to have been chosen for this award,” Nicole Krause, ASTOP executive director, said. “To say this is an honor is an understatement. Partnerships like this happen when different organizations work together. Volunteers are an integral part of our agency and the services ASTOP provides to the communities we help. We really appreciate the time the students have dedicated to our clients. We cannot thank everyone involved enough.”

Moraine Park Technical College works to bring quality education to the students, which in turn will benefit the communities where they live and work. The volunteer hours at ASTOP qualify as a service-learning initiative at the College. Students who participate are required to log service hours and submit reflections, which count towards earning Student Community Impact awards.

Experiential Learning opportunities such as this allow students to make community connections before graduation and work and learn through real-life scenarios. The partnership created by Moraine Park Technical College and ASTOP has positively benefited both organizations, the student volunteers, and the families that are being served.
