Monster second-half gives Marian women’s soccer convincing win over rival Ripon

Marian University women’s soccer (2-0-0, 0-0-0 NACC) put up four second-half goals to take down Ripon 5-0 in their first away game of the 2025 campaign.

  • Junior Emily Gordillo carried her momentum over from her last game, scoring a goal at the 2:40 mark to give Marian an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Sabres dominated the shot chart in the first half with a 10-1 advantage, but only held a 1-0 lead going into the break. 
  • Senior Brianna Guelig broke the game open at 55:17, scoring off an assist by junior Ysabella Sanchez. The Sabres never looked back. 
  • Sophomore Daniela Chaname scored her first goal in nearly a full calendar year off a penalty kick at 75:31.
  • Marian closed the game out strong with two late goals from senior Baylee Alvarado in the final ten minutes.

  • Marian dominated with a whopping 23-6 advantage in shots, including a 10-1 margin in the first half. 
  • 18 shots on goal also led the Red Hawks by a wide margin (18-3). 
  • The 5-0 win was Marian’s largest margin of victory since a 5-0 win over Rockford on Oct. 5, 2024. 
  • The Sabres start 2-0 for the first time since 2017.
  • Marian is 18-9-1 all-time against the Red Hawks and now hold a four-game winning streak in the rivalry.

Senior Baylee Alvarado scored two goals late in the second half, notching the first two-plus goal game of her Marian career.
Senior Chelsea King (1-0-0) totaled three saves in her first start of the season. 
Senior Brianna Guelig led the team with four shots, as well as achieving her first goal of the season.
