It’s easy to look back at eight decades of Mercury Marine history and point to major milestones, such as the first 100hp outboard in 1962, the first V-6 outboard in 1976 and the first fuel- injected supercharged sterndrive to produce more than 1000hp (the HP1075 SCi) in 2004. However, Mercury has made so many significant advances — from the sublime to the simple — that improved the quality of boating, that the world of boating sometimes takes them for granted.

During those eight decades, one thing more than any other has separated Mercury Marine from its competition – the people of Mercury Marine. The same spirit that drives Mercury employees to achieve great feats of engineering and workmanship also drives their desire to strengthen the communities where they live. Around the world, Mercury employees dedicate significant time, energy, and money to local organizations, demonstrating true commitment to help their neighbors. Historically, about 40 percent of Mercury employees based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, participate in at least 20 hours annually of community volunteerism.

The Mercury National Walleye Tournament, or “Merc National,” was created to promote outboard engines and walleye fishing. However, the Merc National grew to become one of the largest walleye events in the country and the cornerstone of Walleye Weekend, a nationally recognized, free family festival in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

This year, 2024, is Mercury Marine’s 85th anniversary. Watch this video they crafted to celebrate. (video link: https://mercurymarine.widen.net/s/5mwxwbp6sh/85th-anniversary-heritage-video)
