Marian women’s volleyball uses quick start against Lakeland

Marian University women’s volleyball (4-15, 0-5 NACC) took the opening set but fell to Lakeland 20-25, 25-19, 25-16, and 25-15.

  • After trading points to open the match, Marian scored four unanswered to take a 9-5 lead.
  • The Marian lead was cut down to two before the Sabres scored four straight to lead 19-13.
  • The Muskies responded with four straight of their own before Marian scored five unanswered to lead 24-17 and take the set.
  • The two squads got out to a 6-6 start in the second set before Lakeland went on a 5-1 run to lead 11-7.
  • Marian was able to cut that lead down to one at 18-17 before the Muskies put the set away with five unanswered points.
  • Lakeland had a quick start in the third set scoring the first seven points.
  • The Muskies led by as many as 11, but a Marian was able to build some momentum going into the fourth.
  • Marian opened the fourth with a slim 9-8 lead before Lakeland scored the next six points.
  • Lakeland had another run of seven straight points to pull away and close out the match.
