Marian women’s volleyball sweeps Wisconsin Lutheran

Marian University women’s volleyball (13-9, 5-4 NACC) sweeps Wisconsin Lutheran behind a dominant match from the offense 25-11, 25-19, 25-17.

  • The Sabres jumped out to a commanding 10-4 lead early in set one to force a Wisconsin Lutheran timeout..
  • Marian would not let up the early momentum as its lead would grow to 20-11 behind a dominant stretch from the offense.
  • The Sabres would easily take set one after closing out the game on a 5-0 run.  
  • Set two saw the teams trading points with neither team taking the advantage 8-8.
  • Marian was able to capitalize on a few Warrior errors and go on an 8-1 run to move the score to 16-9.
  • WLC would not go away quietly in the second set as the Warriors would close out the game on a 10-9 advantage but the Sabre lead proved to be too much.
  • The third set saw the Sabres get out to a quick 8-4 lead followed by a 7-3 run to extend their lead 15-7.
  • The two teams would once again trade points but the Sabres had the advantage down the stretch to close out set three and sweep WLC.

  • Marian had the advantage in kills 37-22 and hitting percentage .268 to the Warriors .023.
  • The Sabres led in every major statistical category with the largest advantage in assists 36-21.
  • Marian held the Wisconsin Lutheran under .162 hitting in all three sets with a .000 hitting percentage in the third.
  • This game marks the first time Marian has defeated Wisconsin Lutheran since 2014.

Senior Kaitlyn Merrill had a game high 10 kills and added six digs. 
Senior Anna Tapia paced the Marian offense with 28 assists while recording five kills on .714 hitting. 
Sophomore Alana McDermott led all players with 12 digs and added one service ace.
