Marian women’s volleyball sweeps Alverno to finish season

Marian University women’s volleyball (11-19, 3-9 NACC) defeated Alverno 25-8, 25-22, 25-14 in the final match of the season.

  • Marian dominated the opening set jumping out to a 12-2 lead and later using six unanswered points to go ahead 18-5.
  • The Sabres were able to close the set with a 6-1 spurt.
  • After a 7-7 start to the second, Marian scored four unanswered to lead 11-7.
  • The Inferno chipped away at the lead and eventually took the lead at 22-21.
  • Marian battled back using three kills and an ace to go ahead 2-0.
  • A back-and-forth start saw Marian hold a slim 10-9 lead to start the third set.
  • The Sabres were able to gradually build its lead to 19-13 before ending the match scoring six of the final seven points.

  • The Sabres finished with a 45-24 advantage in kills and 38-35 edge in digs.
  • Marian dominated at the service line recording 15 aces, the second time this season with double-digit aces in a three-set match.
  • The Sabres had at least 12 kills in each set and had a season-best .387 hitting percentage.
  • Marian improves to 24-0 all-time against Alverno with this being the fifth consecutive sweep.

Junior Harley Bartels had 12 kills and hit .688 to go with four service aces and two assisted blocks.
Sophomore Janci Ige finished with a team-high 12 digs and closes the season with double-digit digs in seven straight matches.
Sophomore Ryanne Jasica finished with 10 kills, four service aces and eight digs.
