Marian women’s volleyball goes five sets with UW-Stout

Marian University women’s volleyball (1-14, 0-1 NACC) fell to UW-Platteville and UW-Stout in a quadrangular hosted by UWP.

AT UW-PLATTEVILLE (25-9, 25-20, 25-10)

  • UW-Platteville became the fifth different team the Sabres faced who was at least receiving votes in the national poll.
  • The Pioneers jumped all over the Sabres from the start and led 18-4 to start the opening set.
  • Marian trailed 10-7 to start the second set before UWP was able to score six straight points.
  • The Sabres rallied with a 9-2 run later in the set to only trail 19-18.
  • A strong finish saw UWP score six of the final eight points.
  • The third set was similar to the first as the Pioneers jumped out ahead 17-6 and never looked back.

VS. UW-STOUT (23-25, 25-12, 20-25, 25-18, 15-8)

  • UW-Stout led for most of the first set and brought its lead out to 21-18.
  • Marian had a strong finish to the set outscoring UWS 7-2 the rest of the way to take the opening set.
  • The Blue Devils responded in a big way in the second taking a 15-8 lead and followed that by going on an 8-1 run to even the sets.
  • The Sabres didn’t back down, however, jumping out to a 16-4 lead in the third set.
  • UW-Stout was able to cut their deficit down to three but Marian finished off the set with a 4-2 spurt.
  • The momentum continued to swing in the third as UW-Stout opened the set with a 16-6 advantage and was able to force a fifth set.
  • Marian opened the fifth set with a 4-3 lead before UWS used a 7-2 run to lead 10-6.
  • The Blue Devils then put the match away with a 5-1 run to finish it off.

AT UW-PLATTEVILLE

  • UW-Platteville had a 44-25 edge in kills and hit .459 in the match.
  • The Sabres were nearly edged in digs by a 33-32 margin.
  • The service line saw the Pioneers record 12 service aces.
  • Marian falls to 0-5 this season when facing teams receiving votes in the national poll.
  • The Sabres fall to 1-2 all-time against UW-Platteville.

AT UW-STOUT

  • The Sabres held an advantage in kills at 58-55 and digs at 80-71.
  • The Blue Devils finished the match with 15 blocks.
  • Marian falls to 0-3 in five-set matches this season.
  • The Sabres are now 1-5 all-time against UW-Stout.

Senior Mikalah Mueller had a dobule-double against UW-Stout with 12 kills and 19 digs.
Senior Harley Bartels had 14 kills, three aces, nine digs, and five total blocks against UWS.
Senior Alana McDermott had 19 digs.
